Types of braces

Braces are divided into two groups, mobile and fixed devices. Mobile orthodontic aids can be removed, while with fixed orthodontic aids have special locks attached to the teeth and cannot be removed.

Traditional removable devices have limited efficacy, especially in older patients and in case of very inclined and rotated teeth. That is why mobile device are usually worn during the jaw development to properly direct them.

Fixed orthodontic aids are very effective and their, conditionally speaking, disadvantage is their intricate metallic look. Nowadays, there are esthetically customized, less intrusive fixed braces you can find in our dental center.

Invisalign: invisible mobile aligner

In addition to the traditional and esthetic fixed braces, the Videntis Dental Center offers the latest trend in orthodontics, Invisalign.

It is a system of transparent splints made of durable plastic. Invisalign is part of mobile orthodontic appliance, but it is as effective as fixed braces and designed for all ages. Thanks to the continuous development of this technology, Invisalign is able to solve even the most difficult orthodontic problems.

The main advantages of Invisalign over traditional fixed and removable devices is its unnoticeability and normal dental hygiene. More about Invisalign can be found on our web page “Invisalign, transparent aligner“.

Setting up braces

One of the most common topics in conversation with the patients is setting up of the braces. This is because orthodontic therapy plays a role in other areas of dentistry before or after other dental procedures.

Today it is quite common for adults to wear dental braces. This is due to the fact that there is a widespread understanding that braces are not only an esthetic correction, but improve teeth function and long-term dental health preservation. It’s never too late to take care about it!

Orthodontics: bringing the order

Orthodontics is a field of dentistry dealing with correction of teeth position in order to improve the function and esthetics of the dental arch. Disorders such as badly arranged teeth, irregular growth, are too tight or too spaced, etc., are called “orthodontic anomalies”. We deal with these issues with fixed and removable braces.

As we want to guarantee the proper development of the dental arch in children, adult orthodontics among other uses sets the foundation for quality prosthetic and implant reconstruction.

We can help you choose an orthodontic device.

It is never too late for proper teeth arrangement.

Flat teeth are important

Apart from the fact that an irregular position of the teeth can affect personal self-confidence, it disables high-quality teeth cleaning, encourages formation of dental calculus, and can also lead to nausea and loss of teeth. An improper arrangement of the teeth affects the chewing system disorder, which can shorten the life span of the supporting tissue and teeth.

Health risks of irregular dental arch:

  • Increased calculus formation and consequent caries formation
  • Gastrointestinal diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitiswhich lead to decay and loss of teeth
  • Increased wear of the teeth and jaw joint due to bad bite.

When is the time to wear braces?

Most orthodontic anomalies are best treated between 8 and 14 years of age, while jaws are still developing. This will ensure their proper growth. It is therefore best to bring the child to the orthodontic examination as early as in the 7 years of age.

However, experience shows that orthodontic therapy is also successful in other periods of life. Adolescents and young people are motivated by esthetic enhancements to improve their image, along with better bite and jaw function. That’s understandable. Let’s just take into consideration the fact that every cell phone’s virtual camera is connected to the internet and how modern social and business relationships have become intense in every age.

Long-term well-being of a proper dental arch:

  • Quality dental hygiene
  • Improved tooth stability
  • The teeth are evenly worn out
  • Proper functioning of the jaw joint: improper functioning of the jaw joint can cause headaches and neck pain
  • Enhanced diction and speech
  • Greater self-confidence in social and business contacts

How long does orthodontic therapy last?

Duration of orthodontic therapy is individually. It usually lasts 18 to 20 months, depending on the type of braces and the anomaly treated. After the end of therapy with a fixed or mobile orthodontic device it is necessary to wear a retainer. They serve to keep the teeth in the correct position. There are removable and fixed retainers. The retainer should be worn as long as the whole jaw and face do not adapt to the new tooth position, and sometimes even permanently, which is individual. The patients will get detailed instructions from our orthodontists.
